How the app works

Enkrateia is a 90-day program that helps you take back control of the apps that pull at you. It runs in three phases, then becomes yours to keep in Maintenance Mode.

• Break — the apps you chose stay fully blocked. Your only job is to hold the line.
• Build — each morning you make a deliberate choice: keep blocking, or unlock with intention.
• Control — you set a daily time allowance; apps unlock until you hit it, then re-block automatically.
• Maintenance — after Day 90 there's no streak to protect. You keep the tools and set your own daily limit.

Your dashboard is home base: it shows the day you're on, your phase, a progress bar, today's reflection, and quick access to everything below.

Blocking, and the “Need an app?” unlock

Apps or websites aren’t being blocked

Enkrateia blocks through Apple’s Screen Time. Make sure you granted Screen Time access when prompted, then open the app and re-select the apps you want blocked (Onboarding → “Select apps,” or Settings). Blocking only works on a real device, not the Simulator.

What “Need an app?” / the unlock does

Life happens — sometimes you genuinely need a blocked app for a minute. The Unlock an app option (the quiet link at the bottom of the dashboard) opens a short, deliberate flow: it asks you to pause and breathe, then hold a button to confirm. When you do, your apps open for 30 minutes and then re-block automatically — even if you close Enkrateia. There's a live countdown on the dashboard, and a “Restore blocking now” button if you finish early.

I can’t delete the Enkrateia app

That’s by design, and only if you set it up that way. The strongest way to stop the “just delete the app to bypass it” loop is to not hold the key yourself: during setup you can have an accountability partner set the device’s Screen Time passcode and turn off “Deleting Apps.” With that in place, the app can’t be removed without your partner’s passcode. To undo it, open Settings → Screen Time on the device and enter that passcode (your partner has it). Enkrateia never sets a device-wide deletion lock on its own.

Urge surfing — riding out a craving

A craving feels like it will keep rising until you give in. It doesn’t — urges crest and fall like a wave, usually within a few minutes. Urge surfing is a guided ~90-second exercise that walks you through noticing the urge, breathing, and letting it pass without acting on it. You’ll find it on the dashboard as “Feeling the urge? Ride it out.” Use it the moment you feel the pull — it’s the cheapest, fastest tool in the app.

Journaling & the letter to your future self

Daily reflection (journaling)

Once a day the dashboard offers a Daily reflection — a under-a-minute check-in on how the day went. It builds your streak and powers the insights on your Progress tab. Entries are encrypted on your device; the key never leaves it, so not even we can read them.

Letter to your future self

Early in the program you can write a sealed letter to the version of you on a future day (Day 14 is the suggested one — historically a hard stretch). You pick the delivery day, write it, and seal it. On that day the letter arrives back on your dashboard (and as a notification) for you to open. It’s a small message from past-you to future-you, exactly when you’re most likely to need it.

Accountability partner & the Screen Time lock

Adding a partner is optional. If you do, they receive a small number of emails — program milestones, missed check-in nudges, and a crisis/override alert — and never your journal. To stop them, remove the partner in the app or email us and we’ll remove them within 10 business days.

For the strongest commitment, your partner can set the device’s Screen Time passcode during onboarding (or later, from Settings). That’s what makes the app un-deletable on a whim — see “I can’t delete the Enkrateia app” above. No partner? You can skip it and still use the whole program; you can also turn the lock on later when you have someone.

Billing & account

Subscriptions, purchases & refunds

Enkrateia is a one-time purchase with lifetime access, billed through your Apple ID. Purchases, billing, and refund requests are handled by Apple. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. To restore a purchase on a new device, use Restore on the paywall or Settings → Restore purchases.

Signing in

You can sign in with email or with Apple/Google. If a sign-in link or code isn’t arriving, check your spam folder and confirm you’re using the same address you signed up with — then email us and we’ll help.

Delete my account and data

Open Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your account and all associated data from our servers. You can also email [email protected] and we’ll confirm deletion by email.
